2009 Willie Mays 10U Florida State Champs Hialeah Tigers and Runner-Up Plantation Stars battled this past Sunday at Weston's Vista Park to settle who was to be the 2009 Willie Mays 10U champions. Both teams battled during the 3 hours event with 20 runs scored between the two teams in the first 2 innings played. The Hialeah Tigers came out on top by the score of 18- 14. Both teams will advance to the 2009 Willie Mays S.E. Regional tournament that will be hosted by the Weston Rattlers on July 8-11th.
2009 12U Pee Wee Reese Champions Boca Starz and runner-up Weston Hawks battled other teams as well as weather this past weekend in Weston to determine who was to be the 12U Florida State Champions. The weather over the weekend played a major role in determining not only who had the better teams but who had more determination. Saturdays semi-final game between the Boca Starz and the Weston Hawks lasted 5 hours and was suspended due to lighting. Both teams returned on Sunday to determine the winner and runner-up. The Weston Rattlers 11U team who was considered a long shot when the tournament began held their own and came in fourth place among the 12U teams to be able to advance to the 11U single age world series in New York. Both the Boca Starz and the Weston Hawks Red will be advancing to the 2009 Pee Wee Reese S.E. Regional Tournament that will be hosted by the Weston Rattlers also on July 8-11th.
